About The Position

Shape the World Around You – As a Mechanical Designer, you will contribute your technical expertise to impactful, multidisciplinary projects that support safer, more efficient, and more sustainable mining, metals and industrial infrastructure systems. You’ll design and collaborate across teams to deliver solutions that help communities and industries thrive. This position will play a key role in the design and optimization of the layout design of heavy industrial projects across the subsector. This position will be located in one of our Canadian offices with preference for our Northern Ontario offices. At WSP, our Resources subsector plays a vital role within our Energy, Resources & Industry (ERI) sector, delivering end‑to‑end solutions for clients across Canada. Requirements

  • College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent;
  • 8+ years experience in mechanical engineering design specifically with experience in layout design for heavy industrial and/or mining projects;
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment, and piping installation requirements in the field;
  • Must have consulting experience;
  • Proven experience with AVEVA E3D, Plant3D, Revit, Microstation, SolidEdge and SmartPlant;
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal);
  • French language skills (written and verbal) an asset;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to perform design engineering;
  • Strong critical thinking skills and an ability to problem solve effectively;
  • Ability to work well in a team but also as an individual contributor.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare 3D models and layout general arrangements for existing plant upgrades and new facilities;
  • Prepare process flow diagrams;
  • Prepare design sketches;
  • Prepare design calculations and design briefs;
  • Prepare standard details;
  • Prepare trade-off studies and reports;
  • Assist in the checking of Vendor documentation;
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure a timely and accurate flow of design information, while ensuring departmental and client standards are maintained;
  • Provide input to departmental support tasks such as the maintenance and revision of equipment libraries, department standards and procedures.
