About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Business Unit, Armament Systems, is seeking a Mechanical Designer II for their location in Plymouth, MN. Armament Systems specializes in the development and production of Ammunition, Guns and Precision Guidance Ordinance. This position involves designing components or portions of systems and modifying existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. The role utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or Creo. The Mechanical Designer II will gather information, make studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals. They will also coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups, considering factors like ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. This role excludes classifications where incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Requirements

  • Technical or Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Drafting/Design.
  • Two years minimum Pro/E / Creo experience with a minimum of 1 year utilizing Pro/E / Creo 10.0.
  • Ability to model fully defined components and assemblies efficiently using Pro/E / Creo 10.0.
  • Ability to create/update parametric drawings in conformance with Northrop Grumman, Industry and DEVCOM Armaments Center 3D modeling standards.
  • Microsoft Office experience.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess an understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Understanding of Teamcenter PLM toolsets.
  • Exposure to production/factory floor environment.
  • Exposure to or interest in ammunition, reloading, or shooting sports.

Responsibilities

  • Model fully defined components and assemblies efficiently using Pro/E / Creo 10.0.
  • Create/update parametric drawings in conformance with Northrop Grumman, Industry and DEVCOM Armaments Center 3D modeling standards.
  • Work with other engineers, technicians, program managers and administrative personnel to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Accept work direction from other drafters/designers, engineers and manager on assigned project.
  • Mechanical modeling utilizing Pro/E / Creo 10.0.
  • Review work to ensure accuracy and completeness.
