About The Position

Perform design duties on all projects while working with other designers and BIM design staff to deliver a quality product on schedule. Act as the primary designer on a project, covering all phases from kick-off to completion of construction. Coordinate all design aspects with other disciplines, provide schematic design information including preliminary calculations, design distribution, equipment sizing, and cut sheets. Perform calculations using engineering formulas and software, research and select equipment, and prepare drawings and sketches. Research design options, document findings, and investigate code issues. Ensure drawings and designs comply with company standards. Keep the Project Manager informed of workload and project scope changes. Prepare preliminary task lists and edit specifications. Incorporate design concepts into construction documents and organize project files. Maintain an organized work area for efficient access to information. Solve engineering problems using experience, judgment, and education, seeking assistance when needed. Continue learning through in-house seminars and external education opportunities. Perform additional assignments as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Architectural Engineering with 2 years of related work experience or Technical/Associate Degree with 3 years of related work experience or High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of related work experience
  • Revit and AutoCAD drafting/design experience and knowledge on reading construction drawings.
  • Proficient use of computer for design and BIM drafting.
  • Use of computer programs for engineering analysis and equipment selection.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word) or related software.
  • Proficient in using office equipment (e.g., computer, copier, etc.).
  • Excellent research and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility with workload and project schedules.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Research code issues and asks code officials questions.
  • Assure that drawings and designs are in accordance with company production and design standards.
  • Keep Project manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
  • Prepare preliminary task list.
  • Edit specifications.
  • Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with project team to produce construction documents.
  • Organize and maintain project files.
  • Maintain neat and organized work area, which allows efficient access to information required by other team members.
  • Solve engineering problems using experience, judgment and education but is expected to ask for assistance when needed.
  • Continue learning process by attending in-house seminars and continuing education opportunities outside of office.
  • Perform additional assignments as requested/needed.
