About The Position

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated provides enabling technologies for industrial growth markets that require advanced technology and high reliability. These markets include aerospace and defense, factory automation, air and water quality environmental monitoring, electronics design and development, oceanographic research, deepwater oil and gas exploration and production, medical imaging and pharmaceutical research. We are looking for individuals who thrive on making an impact and want the excitement of being on a team that wins. This role involves creating and modifying detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from sketches, layouts, or notes provided by engineering. The position contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operations or product quality, and checks drawing plots for correctness and conformance to standards. The Mechanical Designer/Drafter works with design engineers regarding model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation. At this level, tasks can be general but may involve complex or non-routine assignments performed under limited supervision. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, team-oriented, quality-focused, and willing to work under schedule pressure. Essential duties include designing major segments of complex subsystems, creating 3-D models using SolidWorks 2023, preparing production drawings, and applying knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes. The role requires the ability to work within a concept-to-manufacture environment, integrate and package electro/mechanical enclosures, perform Form, Fit, and Function verification, and participate in design reviews. Close communication with engineers and manufacturing personnel is essential to ensure design aspects are understood. The position also serves as a liaison with operations during fabrication to resolve design issues and update drawings, and performs tolerance analysis on mating parts. Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and relevant standards (MIL-STD, ASME, NAS, DOD) is required. The role may involve technically directing work and checking drawings of lower-level drafters, and providing CAD software expertise. Daily availability, including evenings and weekends when necessary to meet goals/deadlines, is expected. Experience with AutoCAD, SMAP 3D, and DraftSight for 2D drawings may also be required. Overtime work is expected.
