About The Position

The Mechanical Designer 1 works under the direction of the Mechanical Project Lead on multidisciplinary engineering and design teams. The role develops mechanical general arrangement, piping isometric, pipe support, and mechanical equipment layout drawings using 3D models. The designer uses Hexagon SmartPlant S3D and the SPF database to produce design deliverables, bills of materials, and commodity lists; interprets piping and instrumentation diagrams created in SPID; and creates physical designs consistent with engineering requirements. The position also leads coordination of detailed design phases for integrated mechanical models, resolves model clashes and discrepancies, coordinates with project team members, independently plans and executes mechanical deliverables, and mentors less experienced drafters and designers. This position offers a hybrid schedule combining office work and remote work. Sargent & Lundy does not sponsor U.S. work authorization for this position. The position is part of the Nuclear Power Group, which works on nuclear engineering, design, and licensing projects, including existing-plant life extensions and modernization, advanced reactor projects, and new-build projects.
