About The Position

This internship focuses on mechanical design within the engineering department. Interns will review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, and ideas to assess factors affecting component designs. They will utilize computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software, including AutoDesk (AutoCAD, Revit, NavisWorks) and Dassault Systems (SolidWorks, Visualize). A key part of the role involves establishing and utilizing the Engineering Design Library, which includes a 3D model library of parts, a 2D block library of parts/details, and company best practice design guides. Interns will be responsible for providing accurate time estimates for their work and collaborating effectively within a team to design layouts, mechanical components, electromechanical components, and systems. They will also be expected to seek help and resolve design issues with the team. A thorough understanding of drafting principles and manufacturing standards (Drawing, Weld, Piping design, Document Control, Design Software, and Machining Standards) is required. The role involves applying sound drafting and design principles, selecting parts/materials/design components, and applying part numbers. Proficiency in complex mathematics for design development, producing illustrations for manuals, and effectively communicating ideas through conversation, freehand drawings, or by referencing other design examples is essential. Time management and task prioritization are critical, as interns will be involved with schedules throughout all design phases to ensure reasonable deliverables. They will help maintain design schedules and awareness through interaction with all departments. Creating and maintaining a Bill of Materials (BOM) for multiple projects is also a responsibility. Interns will actively participate in continuous improvement efforts, identifying potential bottlenecks in the Engineering department and offering suggestions for improvement. Effective communication with co-workers, identifying pros and cons of solutions, and understanding the importance of new information for problem-solving are key. Participation in customer conferences for design reviews and providing answers as needed is also part of the role. All job duties must be performed ethically and professionally, aligning with CryoWorks Core Values, and adhering to all established deadlines while maintaining accountability for engineering deliverables and project requisites. Ensuring required services are delivered on time and to cost/quality standards, along with strict adherence to CryoWorks Standards and compliance with customer and code specifications, is mandatory.
