About The Position

Moog is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support multiple teams focused on the development of next-generation hypersonic vehicle solutions. This role requires solving innovative and adaptive solutions based on ambiguous requirements, with knowledge of electromechanical and hydraulic actuators, release mechanisms, complex systems packaging and structure solutions, and interactions with power management and controllers being critical. The position also involves customer interaction, requiring some business development involvement and relationship building. The engineer will support designs across proposals and multiple programs in parallel, working with classified and CUI information. The Hypersonic Vehicle Systems (HVS) unit is looking for an engineer to support its growing business, juggling multiple complex programs with challenging physics to advance technology for unprecedented solutions. The role reports to the HVS Staff Systems Engineering Manager and is based onsite in East Aurora, New York, collaborating with systems, electrical, firmware, software, and packaging engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of Engineering work experience
  • Experience and working knowledge across all Mechanical Engineering elements, to include new business/concept development, requirements development/allocation, design and analysis, integration and test, and anomaly resolution/root cause investigations.
  • Proven ability to work in agile and quick-turn environments with demonstrated results.
  • Capability to progress designs in the absence of clear requirements and pivot quickly in response to changes.
  • Confidence in a solution and steering customers towards best results
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Top Secret Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge with electromechanical and hydraulic actuators, release mechanisms, complex systems packaging and structure solutions, and interactions with power management and controllers will be critical in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently with general supervision to develop designs and identify critical performance characteristics.
  • Support proposals and design requirements across multiple programs, many of which are direct to government.
  • Work across SDG BU’s with other engineers to ensure system designs are adequate and mechanical solutions will meet the warfighters needs.
  • Support new programs through trade studies, concept development, proposal responses, and customer presentations.
  • Provide solutions that balance a broad range of issues backed by sound engineering judgment.
  • Support NRE estimates for proposals and provide technical insight to test plans/verification/validation.
  • Provide support to a Systems Engineering team working on actuation technology and integration of actuation systems.
