About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, validating, and sustaining pressure and temperature sensing products for aerospace applications. Designs will require knowledge of electromechanical systems, material properties, design for manufacturing, static and dynamic analysis, and testing methods. The ideal candidate has sensor design experience, understands aerospace and AS9100 requirements, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The candidate will be expected to prepare documentation and presentations while interfacing with customers, engineers, drafters, supply chain, quality, management, and production personnel. This position will typically be reported to a supervisor or manager.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of mechanical design engineering experience in aerospace or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering required
  • Demonstrable knowledge of aerospace design practices and AS9100 procedures
  • Familiarity with applicable industry design and testing standards, notably RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and RTCA DO-254.
  • Strong understanding of materials, physics, manufacturing and testing methods
  • Proficient with reading engineering drawings/blueprints and interpreting GD&T
  • Proficient with FEA, including stress-strain, thermal, and resonant frequency analysis
  • Proficient with SolidWorks, Microsoft Office and basic data analysis tools
  • Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced test environment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • MS in engineering or related field preferred
  • Experience designing or developing pressure, temperature, or similar sensing devices preferred
  • Functional understanding of analog and digital electronics and ability to read electrical schematics strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of new pressure and temperature sensors from concept through qualification and production release.
  • Review customer and industry requirements to define project input and create compliance matrices for traceability.
  • Communicate with customers to clarify requirements or request deviations while considering the voice of the customer.
  • Design the mechanical elements of the product including material selection, process selection, strength and fatigue analysis, FEA, and tolerance stack up analysis.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers to produce electromechanical interfaces, address thermal considerations, and maximize product performance.
  • Generate the design record (engineering drawings, models, schematics, and work instructions).
  • Collaborate on technical documentation deliverables including but not limited to: ATP, QTP, QAR, QSAR, QTR, FMECA, DDP, PFD, DFMEA, and PFMEA.
  • Guide component level manufacturing and procurement, prototype builds, and tooling fabrication.
  • Participate in qualification testing and any other related design validation activities.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost objectives for production readiness and design maturity.
  • Support RCCA efforts for product related non-conformances.
  • Support PPAP and related cross departmental APQP activities.
  • Troubleshoot issues on the production floor and implement continuous improvements.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
