About The Position

Poly-America, L.P., a leading plastics manufacturer, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team. Poly-America specializes in producing various polyethylene products, including trash bags, construction, and agricultural sheeting, using blown-film extrusion lines. The company is also a significant player in polyethylene recycling and compounding. The engineering team, comprising chemical, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers, is dedicated to advancing plastics technology. The innovative design team has been instrumental in developing breakthroughs in blown-film extrusion and bag-making processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Expert knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD and SolidWorks)
  • Previous experience (5-8 years) in mechanical design, fabrication, and machine shop experience
  • Ability to design for manufacturing and assembly of parts to ensure efficient production
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance fits
  • Experience with blown–film and extrusion equipment
  • Strong desire to follow projects and processes through conceptualization, design, assembly, and implementation
  • Attention to detail in drawings and documentation provided to outside vendors
  • Ability to self-motivate and complete independent assignments or components of group projects on a deadline
  • Aptitude and desire to learn Poly-America processes, equipment, and procedures
  • Successfully passing a drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Understand fabrication, welding, and machining processes for component or machine assembly.
  • Create complex 3D SolidWorks models for design correctness.
  • Generate 2D drawings for component manufacturing.
  • Communicate with vendors to ensure parts meet design specifications and are delivered on time.
  • Coordinate assembly, installation, and testing to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Modify or upgrade existing equipment or components to support Maintenance and Manufacturing groups.
  • Document current equipment, understand occurring problems, use critical thinking to overcome technical challenges, and recommend solutions based on data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Support the R&D group by prototyping, testing designs, and developing/upgrading components.
  • Complete all design project documentation, including 3D models, drawings with BOMs, supporting documentation, and quoting for manufacture.
  • Oversee testing, modifications, and final approval of drawings for manufacturing.
  • Work in solo and team environments with different disciplines.
  • Instruct local maintenance personnel or contractors on relevant theory and practical applications.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and opportunities as assigned by management.
