Mechanical Design Engineer

ImageTek Mfg., Inc.San Jose, CA

About The Position

We are seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer with deep expertise in die cutting, metal stamping, and injection molding to lead the development of robust, scalable manufacturing solutions. This role owns the intersection between product design and high-volume production, driving advanced DFM/DFA strategies, tooling innovation, and process excellence. The ideal candidate is a technical leader who can influence cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and partner with global suppliers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective products from concept through mass production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing/design engineering, with significant exposure to high-volume production
  • Deep expertise in: Die cutting (precision converting, laminates, adhesives, flexible materials)
  • Deep expertise in: Metal stamping (progressive dies, deep draw, high-speed stamping, tolerance control)
  • Deep expertise in: Injection molding (tool design, mold flow behavior, material selection, defect mitigation)
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD tools(e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX) and engineering drawing standards
  • Strong command of GD&T and tolerance analysis for complex assemblies
  • Proven experience with DFM/DFA leadership and tooling optimization
  • Experience leading process validation and statistical analysis (SPC,Cp/Cpk, DOE)
  • Demonstrated success working with external suppliers and contract manufacturers

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in industries such as medical devices, automotive, consumer electronics, or aerospace
  • Background in multi-material assemblies(metal + plastic + adhesives)
  • Familiarity with simulation tools(mold flow, forming analysis)
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt)
  • Experience managing projects across global manufacturing sites

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of components and assemblies optimized for die cutting, metal stamping, and injection molding at scale
  • Drive DFM/DFA strategy across programs, influencing product architecture and design decisions early in development
  • Own tooling design reviews, supplier selection, and qualification for complex tooling (progressive dies, multi-cavity molds, high-precision dies)
  • Define and execute process development plans, including validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), capability studies, and control plans
  • Serve as technical authority for resolving complex manufacturing issues (e.g.,forming limits, warpage, shrinkage, tolerance stack-ups, tool wear)
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement systemic corrective actions across products and processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Supply Chain) to ensure seamless NPI (New Product Introduction)and production ramp
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on manufacturing processes and best practices
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives, yield improvement, and cycle time optimization through process innovation and supplier collaboration
  • Establish and standardize engineering best practices, design guidelines, and process documentation
  • Evaluate and implement advanced manufacturing technologies and automation opportunities
