About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for design, development and industrialization of new products and performs conventional engineering assignments that may involve equipment, project and/or product design, test, specification preparation, research investigations, etc. Responsible for new product development from conception through to production and project integration as well as support for ongoing products/projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering being a plus
  • Preferred at least a minimum of three (3) years’ mechanical design experience
  • Proven track record of new product designs that have been manufactured in a reliable and cost-effective manner
  • Understanding of FEA and FMEA
  • Must have knowledge of manufacturing process as they relate to engineering design
  • Prefer experience with sheet metal and casted components
  • Must have experience with CAD Software (Solidworks a plus)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiar with general manufacturing, machining, fabrication, welding, and finishing practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, tailored to internal and external audiences
  • Read and interpret data, information, and documents

  • Experience with sheet metal and casted components

Responsibilities

  • Design and development of new products, equipment and systems, and modification of existing products as well as Proto-Typing and testing: Product design using 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting tools (SolidWorks)
  • Mechanical and structural analysis and review (FEA using SolidWorks/ANSYS)
  • Component and system tolerance analysis (GD&T)
  • Utilize additive manufacturing for prototyping and production
  • Evaluate new components, materials, and manufacturing methods for application in new and existing products.
  • Execute, control, and maintain projects costs, manufacturability, quality and design requirements during product development cycle, project time, and expenses.
  • Create bills of materials and drawings for prototypes.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs for new designs and maintain product profitability through selection of most advantageous processes and materials.
  • Build and test prototypes.
  • Review and ensure quality specifications are met.
  • Use analytical to assure product function and reliability (FMEA).
  • Design test plans, conduct tests, analyze test data, and prepare test reports and specifications as required.
  • Specify, acquire, and set up instrumentation including data acquisition systems as required for various tests.
  • Meet project target dates and provide required documentation within budgeted costs.
  • Work with vendors to obtain component parts.
  • Provide engineering support to manufacturing, quality, and marketing staff.
  • Support manufacturing in the industrialization of new products and equipment.
  • Support Quality in validation of incoming components.
  • Prepare and complete engineering change notices.
  • Analyze and solve customer problems, developing engineered solutions.
  • Develop intellectual property to preserve and enhance the company's position in the market
