About The Position

Southwest Electric Co., a division of SGB-SMIT Group, is a global transformer manufacturer seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to design all structural components required for switchgear. This role involves providing technical support, manufacturing instructions, and drawings for fixed assemblies, bus work, and steel. The company supports the energy transition with reliable solutions for wind and solar power, industry, and urban energy infrastructure.

Requirements

Associate's degree from a technical program (electrical/mechanical) using CAD software, or 4 years of working experience as a Drafter/Designer.
Demonstrated experience and high proficiency working with AutoCAD 2D.
Minimum 2 years of experience utilizing 3D software creating and revising mechanical assemblies including assembly and part drawings.

AutoCAD Inventor 3D proficiency
Autodesk Inventor experience
MV Switchgear knowledge

Responsibilities

Create mechanical designs that meet various standards (ANSI, IEEE), codes (NEC, Local, etc.) and customer requirements using AutoCAD 2D (AutoCAD Inventor 3D preferred).
Utilize 3D software to create and revise mechanical assemblies, including assembly and part drawings (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, customer specifications, and manufacturing capabilities, including sheet metal and bus work.
Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure mechanical and electrical integration of components.
Understand and utilize switchgear knowledge in electrical safety, compartmentalization, and clearance standards (MV Switchgear preferred).
Review customer specifications and mechanical drawings to determine manufacturing and design requirements.
Review one-line diagrams to determine the necessary design to meet customer specifications.
Provide technical support for shop floor personnel on manufacturing and mechanical-related issues.
