About The Position

This role is responsible for the detailed design of new products and components, as well as the modification and improvement of existing products, from concept to full production. The position involves maintaining and advancing relationships with customers, requiring occasional travel for design support. The engineer will work closely with all other departments to ensure product designs meet various expectations, including reliability, manufacturability, aesthetics, customer requirements, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include conducting or directing lab tests, leading the prototyping process, staying informed about competitive product offerings and advancements in materials/manufacturing, and understanding customer markets. The role also involves providing technical assistance to internal and external marketing representatives and customers, leading project documentation in compliance with the quality system, and potentially providing direction and supervision to other departmental staff. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of design and development experience
  • Familiarity with metal stamping/forming, plastics, and/or electro-mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with CAD, FEA, CFD responsible for print integrity.
  • Executes DFMEA and APQP document support.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the detailed design of new products and components and modification and improvements to existing products from concept to full production.
  • Involved in maintaining and advancing relationships with customers. Travels to customer, as needed, for design support. Annual travel 10% to 15%.
  • Works closely with all other departments within the company to ensure that product design meets their expectations. (i.e. reliability, manufacturability, aesthetics, customer requirements, regulatory requirements, etc.)
  • Conducts or directs lab tests and makes professional judgments with respect to lab testing.
  • Leads prototyping process including definition, sourcing, & execution.
  • Keeps informed as to developments in competitive product offerings, and in material/manufacturing advancements as they apply to the company.
  • Keeps informed as to customer markets as they affect PTI’s product portfolio.
  • Provides technical assistance, with respect to product application, to internal and external marketing representatives and customers.
  • Leads project documentation in compliance with PTI’s quality system implementation.
  • May provide direction & supervision to other departmental staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
