About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer 4 will support the design, development, prototyping, and testing of next-generation Broadband Plasma (BBP) Wafer Inspection Systems used in advanced semiconductor manufacturing. The position is based in Milpitas, California, and is offered as a long-term contract with the possibility of further extension. The engineer will design and qualify precision opto-mechanical assemblies and mechanisms, perform mechanical simulations, collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams, and provide onsite support to manufacturing during assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and production.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in mechanical design and development of precision mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficiency in Creo CAD modeling and 3D mechanical design.
  • Experience in precision mechanism development and opto-mechanical design.
  • Knowledge of actuator selection, tolerance analysis, and mechanical lifetime evaluation.
  • Experience with optical component mounting, alignment, and adjustment mechanisms.
  • Hands-on experience with thermal and structural simulations.
  • Familiarity with CAE tools.
  • Experience with prototype development, testing, design qualification, and manufacturing support.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ANSYS; preferred CAE tool.
  • Flow analysis experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, build, and test precision opto-mechanical assemblies for next-generation BBP wafer inspection systems.
  • Collaborate with core suppliers on mechanical component development and design improvements.
  • Work with system, optical, electrical, and software engineering teams to define subsystem requirements and conduct design reviews.
  • Develop 3D CAD models and mechanical designs using Creo (Pro/ENGINEER).
  • Design precision mechanisms, including actuator selection, tolerance analysis, component lifetime evaluation, optics mounting, and alignment and adjustment mechanisms.
  • Perform thermal and structural engineering simulations; flow analysis may also be involved.
  • Use CAE tools, preferably ANSYS, to evaluate and optimize mechanical designs.
  • Qualify and release mechanical designs to meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Provide engineering support to onsite manufacturing teams during assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and production.
