About The Position

Fogg Filler is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to produce individual designs and documents new products and product line enhancements and material. This role involves working with manufacturing to determine the best manufacturing process for existing and new products, and collaborating with quality personnel to ensure all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met by applying engineering principles under minimal supervision. The engineer will perform in-depth investigations into materials, processes, and products, and utilize sound engineering principles to design new products or modify existing ones based on customer requests, sales feedback, manufacturing input, or the Fogg service team. The position also requires working with manufacturing to optimize designs for cost efficiency, collaborating with other engineering designers to review product designs using SolidWorks, and developing engineering documentation for tooling, manufacturing, and preparation. Responsibilities include requesting and assembling prototypes for testing, analyzing competitive products, and potentially traveling to customer sites for field support. The role also involves supporting customers and the Sales Department on project control specifications and assisting the QC Department during production demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering discipline or equivalent, preferred
  • Prefer a minimum of 5 years of engineering product line responsibilities
  • A minimum of 5 years of project engineering experience
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and CAD
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have PC/Computer skills, which include knowledge of word processing, data analysis and spreadsheet applications.
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Produce individual designs and document new products and product line enhancements and material.
  • Work with manufacturing to determine the best manufacturing process for existing and new products.
  • Work with quality personnel to ensure that all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met by applying engineering principals under minimal supervision.
  • Perform in depth investigation into materials, processes and products, as assigned by management.
  • Utilize sound engineering principles to design new products or modify existing ones from information provided by customer request/feedback, sales/sales engineers, manufacturing personnel or Fogg service team.
  • Work with manufacturing to determine the best design to minimize labor and overhead costs.
  • Work with other engineering designers to review form, fit and function of product designs by utilizing SolidWorks.
  • Develop engineering detail and assembly documentation to support tooling quotations, manufacturing and manufacturing preparation.
  • Request prototypes from outside suppliers, or manufacturing, to be used for engineering performance, concept evaluation and reliability testing.
  • Assemble prototype product using power and hand tools.
  • Lift/move parts weighing up to 40 pounds during engineering evaluations to determine form, fit and function.
  • Initiate and coordinate development programs which will increase cost efficiency resulting in smoother workflow for manufacturing.
  • Include testing and analysis of materials, processes and prototypes.
  • Analyze competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance and packaging.
  • Contact and when necessary visit customers, suppliers, and agencies to obtain information relative to existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes.
  • May be asked to travel and provide engineering field support for customer base and/or our dealer/agents, maintaining optimum quality customer service, as required.
  • Support Fogg customers and Sales Department on project control specifications.
  • Answer engineering customer service telephone calls.
  • Assist QC Department when additional assistance is needed due to production demands.
