This role is 100% in office at least 5 days a week - no remote or hybrid work available. Candidates must live within driving distance of Newport News, VA. The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, integration, and documentation of structural and mechanical systems associated with aircraft modifications, repairs, and certification programs. This role combines the analytical responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer with the CAD proficiency of a Mechanical Designer, independently developing complete engineering solutions from initial concept through released engineering data. The Mechanical Design Engineer develops structural installations, equipment mounts, aircraft modifications, engineering drawings, and supporting documentation while ensuring designs are structurally sound, manufacturable, maintainable, and compliant with applicable regulatory requirements. Mechanical Design Engineers work closely with Electrical Engineers, Certification Engineers, Stress Analysts, Production personnel, and external stakeholders to develop engineering solutions that meet technical, regulatory, and operational requirements. They are expected to independently produce and maintain the engineering data necessary to support fabrication, installation, certification, and continued airworthiness.
