About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer at Fogg Filler (a ProMach brand) is responsible for producing individual designs and documents for new products and product line enhancements. This role involves working closely with manufacturing to determine optimal production processes and with quality personnel to ensure all design and manufacturing quality aspects are met, applying engineering principles under minimal supervision. The engineer will conduct in-depth investigations into materials, processes, and products, and utilize sound engineering principles to design new or modify existing products based on customer requests, sales input, manufacturing feedback, or the Fogg service team. Collaboration with other engineering designers using SolidWorks is expected for reviewing product designs. The role also includes developing engineering documentation for quotations and manufacturing, requesting and assembling prototypes for testing, and analyzing competitive products. Travel may be required for customer and supplier visits, as well as for engineering field support. The position also involves supporting Fogg customers and the Sales Department on project control specifications and answering customer service calls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent, preferred.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and CAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • PC/Computer skills, including knowledge of word processing, data analysis, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering product line responsibilities.
  • A minimum of 5 years of project engineering experience.
  • Some supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce individual designs and documents for new products and product line enhancements.
  • Work with manufacturing to determine the best manufacturing process for existing and new products.
  • Work with quality personnel to ensure all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met.
  • Perform in-depth investigation into materials, processes, and products.
  • Design new products or modify existing ones based on customer requests, sales input, manufacturing feedback, or Fogg service team information.
  • Work with manufacturing to determine the best design to minimize labor and overhead costs.
  • Work with other engineering designers to review form, fit, and function of product designs using SolidWorks.
  • Develop engineering detail and assembly documentation to support tooling quotations, manufacturing, and manufacturing preparation.
  • Request prototypes from outside suppliers or manufacturing for engineering performance, concept evaluation, and reliability testing.
  • Assemble prototype product using power and hand tools.
  • Lift/move parts weighing up to 40 pounds during engineering evaluations.
  • Initiate and coordinate development programs to increase cost efficiency and improve workflow for manufacturing.
  • Analyze competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance, and packaging.
  • Contact and visit customers, suppliers, and agencies to obtain information.
  • Travel and provide engineering field support for the customer base and/or dealers/agents.
  • Support Fogg customers and Sales Department on project control specifications.
  • Answer engineering customer service telephone calls.
  • Assist the QC Department when additional assistance is needed due to production demands.
