About The Position

Our client, a respected and growing engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer/Team lead to join their team. This leadership role offers the opportunity to manage multiple projects while providing technical expertise in the planning, design, and execution of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. The ideal candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with extensive MEP consulting experience, strong project management skills, and a passion for mentoring engineering teams while delivering exceptional client service.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in MEP consulting and mechanical system design.
  • Proven project management experience overseeing multiple complex projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable building codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP).
  • Experience using Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience with healthcare, commercial, industrial, institutional, or municipal projects.
  • Strong client-facing and business development skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with architects, owners, contractors, and engineering teams to develop project scope, budgets, and schedules.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments to identify project opportunities, constraints, and risks.
  • Lead and support the design of mechanical systems for a variety of building types.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously from concept through construction.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project milestones and deliverables are achieved.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and resources.
  • Identify, mitigate, and resolve project risks and technical challenges.
  • Perform site visits and construction observations to verify compliance with design intent and quality standards.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance procedures throughout project lifecycles.
  • Review engineering documents for technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare project reports, meeting minutes, specifications, and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in post-project evaluations and lessons-learned reviews to support continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of junior engineers and designers.
  • Foster collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing across project teams.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert during client meetings, presentations, and project reviews.
