About The Position

Join a group of high-performing professionals who pride themselves in developing innovative products. Kenworth design engineers focus on product development from conceptualization to implementation on the production floor. This role participates in the design and development of heavy-duty trucks within the Routings Group, managing the implementation of product changes by tracking project schedule, budget, and functional requirements throughout the entire life of the project. The engineer will utilize Creo to create optimized air and harness routings, including supporting bracketry and troughs, and work closely with Electrical teams and suppliers to optimize the design of harnesses for routings with the goal of eliminating rub/chafe related field failures. The position involves investigating warranty and plant quality data to understand root causes of routing related defects, defining the scope of Routings programs, and collaborating with the PACCAR Technical Center to develop improved validation methods and procedures for routings. The role also includes collaborating with simulation teams to analyze and validate designs with FEA and creating rapid prototypes to quickly evaluate and/or validate design concepts.

Requirements

  • BSME required
  • 1-3+ years of industry-related background required
  • Extensive 3D modeling software experience required
  • Understanding the use of Design for Six Sigma and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Competence in the use of personal computer software such as word processing, database, and spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity with project management methods and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present status updates.
  • Candidate should be willing to make use of engineering processes and techniques and be resourceful in solving complex technical problems.
  • Requires independent judgement and effective project management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • F.E. certificate preferred
  • design and specification of heavy-duty trucks is a plus
  • Creo Parametric specific knowledge is a plus
  • Past experience working onsite at a Kenworth plant preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design and development of heavy-duty trucks within the Routings Group.
  • Manage implementation of product changes by tracking project schedule, budget, and functional requirements throughout the entire life of the project.
  • Utilize Creo to create optimized air and harness routings, including supporting bracketry and troughs.
  • Work closely with Electrical teams and suppliers to optimize the design of harnesses for routings with the goal of eliminating rub/chafe related field failures.
  • Investigate warranty and plant quality data to understand root causes of routing related defects and use this information to define the scope of the Routings programs.
  • Work closely with PACCAR Technical Center to develop improved validation methods and procedures for routings.
  • Collaborate with simulation teams to analyze and validate designs with FEA.
  • Create rapid prototypes to quickly evaluate and or validate design concepts.
