About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer with a focus on manufacturing equipment. This role involves the full lifecycle of design and development, from concept to production support. You will be responsible for creating 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical specifications, applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles, and collaborating closely with various teams to ensure seamless production. Approximately 80% of your time will be dedicated to design tasks, with the remaining 20% focused on broader engineering functions.

Requirements

2-year associate degree in mechanical engineering with CAD skills.
4+ years of mechanical design engineering experience, preferably designing manufacturing equipment, machinery, tooling, or fixtures.
Experience taking designs from concept through fabrication, assembly, testing, installation, and production support.
Hands-on experience applying DFM/DFA principles and troubleshooting or improving manufacturing equipment.
Experience collaborating with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, fabrication, and production teams.
Proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering drawings, preferably Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, BOMs, and mechanical design documentation.
Practical knowledge of machining, welding/fabrication, sheet metal, assembly, and material/component selection.
Experience with mechanical design calculations, equipment troubleshooting.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with CAD skills.
FEA experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical specifications for mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Inventor.
Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to optimize designs for ease, speed, and cost of production.
Develop and oversee machine part builds, conduct physical and virtual testing (FEA analysis), and refine designs based on performance and manufacturability feedback.
Work closely with manufacturing, materials, quality, and production teams to resolve design-to-production issues.
Prepare Bill of Materials (BOM), engineering drawings, apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and conduct technical reviews.
Assist in process validation, equipment setup, and troubleshooting to ensure smooth production start-up.
Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for design and development projects.
Set up team reviews and process sign-offs.
Ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
Review project requirements and translate them into mechanical design specifications.
Create and refine CAD models, run simulations, prepare manufacturing drawings/layouts.
Coordinate with manufacturing teams to resolve design issues and ensure production readiness.
Document design iterations, provide multiple proposals with suggested pros and cons for each, and request manufacturing feedback.
