About The Position

Development of engineering design data within budget in accordance with FAA, customer and ZIM Aircraft Cabin Solutions (ZACS) standards of quality. This role involves providing technical support for various seating programs, completing feasibility studies for ZACS proposals, and developing design data for aircraft seating assemblies and components. The engineer will perform selections and studies related to fasteners, tolerances, weight, and cost, and develop preliminary engineering analysis. A key responsibility includes reviewing and mentoring less experienced Design Engineers, interfacing with other ZACS departments, and attending design review meetings. The position also requires providing technical support to Manufacturing during production and to customers during seat installation. Developing expertise in aircraft seat design concepts and industry standards, supporting other Engineering groups, and adhering to ZACS internal policies are also essential. The role involves working on complex design tasks with limited assistance and supporting customers, manufacturers, vendors, and the FAA to promote ZACS interests.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Engineering or related scientific field, or equivalent combination of experience and coursework.
  • Five (5) years industry experience in the engineering field, preferably dealing in the design of passenger aircraft seating.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience utilizing SolidWorks (or comparable CAD program) with demonstrable proficiency.
  • Must possess some knowledge of FAA regulations, certification processes and related requirements.
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of standard aircraft components, materials, fabrication practices, aviation hardware and proper application in design.
  • Must possess knowledge of engineering principles used in stress analysis, finite element modeling (FEM), 3D-computer modeling, and other analytical substantiation techniques.
  • Must possess extensive knowledge of personal computer systems with Microsoft Office.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of the use and application of aircraft technical data such as engineering drawings, layouts of passenger accommodations, Component Maintenance Manuals and Service Bulletins.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills, along with good organizational skills, and be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally (10-20%).

Nice To Haves

  • Ten (10) years industry experience in the engineering field, preferably dealing in the design of passenger aircraft seating. Or Master’s Degree in Engineering with eight (8) years industry experience in engineering field, preferably dealing in the design of passenger aircraft seating.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to complete various seating programs.
  • Complete feasibility studies to assist with the development of ZACS proposals and statements of work from limited specification information.
  • Develop and produce design data required for the proper manufacture, assembly and installation of aircraft seating assemblies and components.
  • Perform fastener selections, tolerance studies, weight and cost studies assessments.
  • Develop preliminary engineering analysis necessary to substantiate aircraft modifications.
  • Review the design data produced by less experienced Design Engineers.
  • Assist with development of less experienced Design Engineers by acting as a mentor/resource.
  • Interface with other ZACS departments to ensure customer & ZACS requirements are met.
  • Attend/support design review meetings with ZACS staff.
  • Provide technical support to ZACS Manufacturing during the manufacturing and assembly phases of ZACS developed designs.
  • Provide support during receipt and installation of seats by airframe/customer as required.
  • Develop expertise with aircraft seat design concepts and industry design and test standards.
  • Support other Engineering groups as workload requirements dictate.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to ZACS internal policies and procedures.
  • Provide input and suggestions for continuous improvement of various department procedures, controls, flows and systems.
  • Support, in a professional manner, customers, major manufacturers, vendors, FAA, or other outside agencies to promote and support ZACS technical & commercial interests.
  • Work on complex design tasks with limited assistance.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
