PDS Tech Commercial is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer II to support our client, a global leader in the energy industry, at their North Chesterfield, VA location. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in steam turbine service engineering.
  • Minimum 1+ year of field execution experience, preferably within the power generation industry.
  • Strong understanding of steam turbine systems and balance-of-plant operations.
  • Experience supporting outage planning, execution, inspections, repairs, and operational activities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, and root cause investigation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities and contribute to project execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NX CAD drafting/design software.
  • Familiarity with industrial, fossil, and nuclear steam turbine applications.
  • Established project management experience.
  • Knowledge of steam turbine component inspection methodologies and repair processes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across engineering, sourcing, and customer-facing teams.
  • Adaptable, team-oriented mindset with a strong desire to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and engineering support to field engineers and service managers during outage planning and execution.
  • Support customer-facing teams by addressing steam turbine design, service, and application-related questions.
  • Lead small-scale steam turbine service engineering projects, including interchangeability studies and technical evaluations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis investigations and develop corrective and preventive actions for product and process non-conformances.
  • Partner with parts engineering and sourcing teams to ensure design requirements related to form, fit, and function are achieved.
  • Evaluate material substitutions and support resolution of product non-conformance issues.
  • Collaborate with global engineering teams on steam turbine design improvements and service solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise related to steam turbine rotating and stationary components, inspections, repairs, assembly, disassembly, and startup activities.
  • Travel domestically to support customer site visits and project needs as required (approximately 5% travel).
