About The Position

The Air Defense Ground Equipment Mechanical Design Department is responsible for the mechanical design, development, and integration of critical defense platform systems. This includes radar and communications shelters, electronic subsystems, launchers, hardware integration, and system interconnects. We are currently seeking a motivated and driven Mechanical Engineer II to join our Ground Equipment Design Team. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, mechanical hardware design experience, system integration skills, and a strong background in program execution and production support. As a key contributor on a mechanical or cross-functional engineering team, you will be responsible for component and assembly modeling, documentation, design changes, and release processes.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree.
  • Experience with Investigating and resolving manufacturing or supplier change requests and developing rework and modification procedures.
  • Prior experience supporting the full product lifecycle.
  • Experience collaborating within cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • Experience with design reviews, close action items, and conducting trade studies.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related hardware systems discipline.
  • Experience in electronic packaging design (subsystems, modules, CCAs, PWBs, interconnects) supporting RF, digital, and power systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic assembly integration, shelters, racks, power distribution units, military/commercial specifications, GD&T (ASME Y14.5), ECAD processes, interconnects/cables/harnesses, and material selection/finishes.
  • Proficient in Creo CAD, 3D CAD and PDM systems and technical documentation.
  • Experience with delivering on technical, schedule, and cost commitments.
  • Demonstrated lifecycle development experience.
  • Experience with Windchill PDM or similar configuration/data management systems.
  • Familiar with configuration control and change management processes; skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-driven team player with strong prioritization and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and presentation skills; willing to travel domestically/internationally (~10%).

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve change requests from manufacturing or suppliers
  • Develop rework or modification procedures to support product updates
  • Support the full product lifecycle from concept definition through detailed design, release to production, and post-production support of Ground Based Defense System including Effectors.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines, non-technical functions, and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges
  • Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to inform technical decisions
  • Manage tasks independently and ensure timely delivery of technical, schedule, and financial commitments
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers, contributing to team development and technical growth
