The Advanced Airframes Department within Raytheon Hardware Engineering provides Mechanical Engineering support to develop solutions for products across the Raytheon portfolio. Our core mechanical engineering responsibilities include requirements/conceptual development, design, integration, and test support. We partner with several Mechanical Product Team departments to provide full system solutions. The Advanced Airframes Department is currently hiring a Mechanical Engineer II that will be located on site in Tucson, Arizona. This Mechanical Engineering position will perform in the areas of design and development associated with mechanical designs, validation principals, design verification and qualification tests, hardware procurement, and transition to production processes across a design life cycle. Development work may include requirements understanding, concept development, DFMAs, first order analyses, technical data package (TDP) development, application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principals, engineering test principals, preparation of technical analysis reports, and presenting in design reviews. Some travel may be required to meet and work with vendors and to support hardware procurement, testing, and other activities as needed.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics(STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), or basic tolerance analyses, and/or drawing practices and/or interpretation for mechanical hardware.
  • Experience with CAD design tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Existing DoD Secret or Top-Secret Clearance.
  • Experience with CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software.
  • Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration/data management software.
  • Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal analysis, structural analysis, tolerance analysis, energetics principles, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Supplier interaction and supplier management experience.
  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for technical analysis, data sorting/plotting, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers to propose, design, develop, integrate, and test hardware within the Advanced Airframes mechanical design department.
  • Contribute to one or more contract-funded or independent research efforts, each of which is in a different phase of development (proposal, design, or integration/test).
  • Communicate with across engineering team members and suppliers to analyze, model, and document the design and its capabilities and compliance to requirements.
  • Work independently and under limited supervision to act as the responsible engineer for mechanical hardware.
  • Supplier support for mechanical hardware and/or sub-assemblies, including material dispositions.
  • Root cause investigation for mechanical design issues.
  • Support engineering assembly hardware builds.
  • Ensure tasks are completed within the budget and schedule provided.
