About The Position

As a Mechanical Design Engineer II here at Honeywell, you will be a key contributor to the design and development of cutting-edge mechanical solutions. Your strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and methodologies will ensure that the products developed under your leadership meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. You will report directly to our Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule. In this role, you will impact the mechanical design process, ensuring the delivery of high-quality and reliable products. Your insights and recommendations will help drive the company's strategic direction in mechanical design and development. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
  • 2+ years of experience in Design, simulation, analysis or test experience in turbomachinery or related field, w/ ANSYS software suite experience or comparable software experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and methodologies.
  • Mechanical – ANSYS Mechanical FEA or equivalent experience required OR Aerodynamic – ANSYS CFX, FLUENT or STAR-CCM+ or equivalent experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Engineering degrees such as ME (Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering).
  • Proven track record of successful mechanical design projects.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and best practices.
  • Experience with product testing and validation.
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery test methodologies such as strain gages, light probes and kulites
  • CAD based modeling experience (e.g. NX, UG, Solidworks, CATIA)

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Design and Analysis – Perform activities related to vibration, modal, deflection, fatigue crack growth, burst, HCF, LCF, thermal and stack analysis in support of finite element analysis (FEA) tasks OR Aerodynamic Design and Analysis – Perform activities related to 1D/2D aerodynamic analysis, evaluate parameters such as pressure ratio/mass flow/efficiency/surge margin in support of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tasks.
  • With either Mechanical or Aerodynamic path: Support testing of components and engine modules in various lifecycle stages (rig, development, production) and perform data reduction/analysis on test data
  • Generate accompanying documentation capturing results and findings following design, simulation, analysis and test activities
  • Develop and present engineering artifacts during structured design reviews
  • Interpret engineering drawings via geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Contribute to technical mentoring, process/tool improvement and knowledge capture
