Role Overview The Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer is responsible for, but not limited to, design and manufacturing-related functions required by key strategic business unit account customers. This individual will work synergistically with Qnity's sales and manufacturing to achieve all customer design targets and goals. This is a hybrid position requiring the selected candidate to work on-site three days per week.

Requirements

  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with solid-modeling software, preferable CREO or Solidworks, and/or mechanical/electrical or multiphysics software such as Abaqus, HFSS, or COMSOL
  • Understanding of Finite Element Analysis or Finite Difference numerical modeling techniques, preferably with a history of analyzing boundary value problems and results
  • Understanding of the cross-functional relationships between intercompany groups and the various expertises required to take a product through development to production
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability/experience being an extension of OEM design teams from the system to component level
  • Extensive mechanical design experience
  • Ability/experience understanding electronic system architecture at least at the block diagram level
  • Experience proactively engaging customers, organizing intercompany meetings, and maintaining business relationships across commercial and technical functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience/knowledge in manufacturing processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external engineers and/or customer service to develop customer-specific designs that are both the best technical solution and optimized for manufacturability
  • Analyze designs utilizing Abaqus CAE finite element analysis (FEA) or Ansys Forming, and internally developed tools, to provide analysis packages containing key data points needed to evaluate the effectiveness in the customer application
  • Create 3D models and 2D drawings of Laird products using SolidWorks or CREO 3D CAD
  • Create and control item data in the Aras database
  • Lead new item release activities, ensuring item design requirements meet manufacturing capabilities to fit customer-specific performance needs, board layout, and components
  • Act as subject matter expert for metals designs and manufacturability, supporting customer design for manufacturability (DFM) assessments and operations design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA)
  • Report production release (NIP) and design metrics
  • Support production in troubleshooting manufacturing challenges or issues
  • Proficient at learning new systems and sharing knowledge to ensure best practices and efficiencies
