We are seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to join our team in a data center, commissioning and conducting quality inspections on all mechanical systems. Working independently from trade installation crews, this role ensures that all mechanical installations, equipment, and systems comply with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, quality requirements, and Owner expectations. The ideal candidate has a strong background in mechanical construction, QA/QC, or commissioning within mission-critical facilities. This individual will perform detailed inspections, witness testing and commissioning activities, identify and document non-conformances, and maintain comprehensive quality records to support successful system turnover and project completion. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, sound technical judgment, strong documentation skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety throughout every phase of the project.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in commissioning within mission critical sectors.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and commissioning processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and commissioning documentation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills in a fast-paced field environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review Issued for Construction drawings, specifications, and Owner standards to identify QC risk areas including clarity, tolerances, and acceptance criteria.
  • Review and comment on shop drawings, submittments, method statements, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for compliance.
  • Validate material control and traceability plans (serial numbers, batch numbers, long-lead items).
  • Produce deliverables: Design QC risk register, annotated submittal comments, and list of critical inspections and witness points.
  • Support project managers with schedule planning, resource allocation, and progress reporting to ensure successful project execution.
  • Plan and witness FAT and factory inspections for critical mechanical equipment, including: Chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, and associated controls; Prefab/modular mechanical skids.
  • Verify test procedures, instrumentation calibration, acceptance criteria, and corrective actions.
  • Confirm firmware versions, settings, and as-built configurations match approved submittals.
  • Produce deliverables: FAT reports (with photos), deviations/NCRs, and vendor punchlist closure documentation.
  • Implement and manage daily QC inspections per approved ITPs across all mechanical scopes.
  • Inspect piping cleanliness and flushing procedures.
  • Conduct and document hydrostatic tests.
  • Perform weld inspections to applicable code standards.
  • Verify insulation thickness and quality.
  • Check equipment alignment and vibration isolation.
  • Enforce Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) programs for mechanical spaces.
  • Validate mock-ups, first-of-kind installations, and hold points before production work proceeds.
  • Conduct materials receiving inspection (damage, compliance, certificates).
  • Issue and track NCRs; verify corrective actions and re-inspection.
  • Inspect suppression agent quantities and detection zoning.
  • Witness and document pre-action system tests.
  • Verify penetration firestopping and signage compliance.
  • Witness and document pre-functional checks and functional performance tests for mechanical systems (Level 1–4; Level 5 IST where applicable).
  • Confirm test preconditions, lockouts/tagouts, sequencing, failover, and restoration align with commissioning scripts.
  • Validate setpoints, alarms, and interlocks against approved matrices.
  • Participate in lessons learned after each commissioning milestone.
  • Maintain commissioning QC punchlist, discrepancy log, re-test verification, and sign-off recommendations.
  • Maintain a QC document control repository: inspection forms, evidence (photos, videos), material certificates, weld logs, test reports, and calibration certificates.
  • Provide as-built QC dossier aligned with Owner standards for handover.
  • Prepare final QC report summarising compliance, NCR trends, corrective actions, and residual risk.
  • Submit daily QC logs by 9:00 AM the following day.
  • Issue weekly summary reports (NCR status, upcoming hold points, risks, mitigation).
  • Produce monthly trend analysis (defects by system/subcontractor, leading indicators).
  • Utilise QC forms and logs in ACC; photo/geo-tagging via Owner ACC; secure file exchange per Owner policy.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.
