About The Position
The Facilities Mechanical Engineer is a hands-on technical professional responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing building mechanical systems while supporting capital project development. This role combines engineering expertise with direct field work, requiring both technical knowledge and practical application skills.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems Engineering, or related technical field preferred. Equivalent combination of technical training, certifications, and relevant work experience will be considered.
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience with commercial building mechanical systems
- Demonstrated proficiency in HVAC system operation, maintenance, and repair
- Working knowledge of plumbing systems, controls, and building automation systems
- Experience with fire life safety systems and code compliance
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and their practical application
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and specificatios
- Proficiency with building automation systems and control platforms
- Competency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a hands-on approach
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Flexibility to respond to emergency situations outside regular business hours
- Experience using AutoCad to edit drawings
Nice To Haves
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
- HVAC certifications (EPA Universal Refrigerant certification, etc.)
- Building automation system certifications (Tridium, Johnson Controls, etc.)
- OSHA 30-hour construction safety certification
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimize HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and fire life safety (FLS) systems across assigned facilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building mechanical equipment
- Troubleshoot system failures and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime
- Conduct regular inspections and assessments of mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance
- Execute work orders for mechanical system repairs, modifications, and improvements
- Respond to urgent mechanical system issues and implement timely repairs
- Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and system modifications
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs when required
- Partner with the Project Delivery Services (PDS) group to develop scopes of work for capital improvement projects
- Provide technical input and recommendations for system upgrades and replacements
- Review project specifications and drawings for accuracy and constructability
- Support project execution through technical oversight and coordination
- Ensure all mechanical systems operate in compliance with local codes, regulations, and safety standards
- Maintain knowledge of applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, and industry best practices
- Participate in safety programs and promote a culture of workplace safety
- Maintain accurate records for compliance and audit purposes
