About The Position

Instron is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer for their Engineered Solutions Group (ESG) on the Automation Team. This role involves designing custom automation systems for materials testing, used by major manufacturers worldwide. The engineer will tackle challenging problems from concept to customer delivery within a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment. Responsibilities include quoting, designing, procurement, manufacturing, testing, installation, and support of automated solutions. The role requires meeting design specifications and project schedules, with ownership of project activities. Collaboration with multidisciplinary engineers, manufacturing, sales, and service teams, as well as vendors, suppliers, and customers, is crucial. The engineer will also provide input on design, material selection, finishes, and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in a design or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks to complete models, drawings, and FEA.
  • Experience with industrial automation technologies including motion control, pneumatic systems, robotics, machine safety systems, and automated manufacturing equipment is highly desirable.
  • Machine design experience that has incorporated machine elements, mechanical drive systems, kinematic principles and/or mechanisms, ergonomics, and design for cost and manufacturability.
  • System testing and design verification experience that includes setting up and conducting tests, data acquisition, and statistical analysis, summarizing data, and writing reports.
  • Knowledge of or desire to learn the details of materials testing.

  • Provide overall ownership of the activities required to complete projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers, manufacturing, sales, and service teams, as well as vendors, suppliers, and customers.
  • Provide input on design, material selection, finishes, and manufacturing processes.
