About The Position

This role involves various levels of mechanical assembly, from basic setup and inspection to advanced troubleshooting and training. The technician will be responsible for ensuring products meet quality standards, utilizing engineering drawings and specifications, and working with a variety of assembly processes. The position also emphasizes supporting program participants and contributing to process improvements.

Requirements

  • Manufacturing experience utilizing various machines and processes.
  • Use and familiarity with assembly and measuring tools, such as scale, caliper, ball and pin gauges, handheld and squeeze type riveting tools, drills and drill press, and a variety of small hand tools and fixtures.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated shop math skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collectively.
  • Customer service skills; able to relate well to all internal and external customers.
  • Two years of relevant manufacturing experience (for Level 2).
  • Five years of relevant manufacturing experience including specific experience on assigned equipment and processes (for Level 3).
  • Experience providing on-the-job training or mentoring (for Level 3).
  • Experience developing shop aids, tooling and production processes (for Level 3).
  • Supervisory experience in a production environment (for Lead).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-production set-up, ensuring efficient workstation layout and availability of acceptable materials.
  • Obtain buyoff from authorized co-worker for set-up.
  • Conduct inspection of all tasks performed, ensuring products and services meet quality standards.
  • Notify Supervisor of all non-conformances immediately.
  • Endeavor to reduce and eliminate non-conformances.
  • Perform jobs according to customer requirements utilizing Orion’s Quality Management System, engineering drawings, specifications, job plans, parts lists, MSDS, and other required documents.
  • Engage in processes including drilling, countersinking, riveting, deburring, part marking/touch up, packaging/part protection, and bracket building.
  • Model appropriate work performance as an example to Orion Program Participants.
  • Process work within performance and delivery requirements.
  • Complete first article inspection on all new jobs.
  • Document all non-conformance’s immediately.
  • Work with Mechanical Assembly Lead and QA to obtain root cause and provide corrective action.
  • Interpret blueprints/specifications (detail and assembly).
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform repairs.
  • Perform electrical bonding (certification required).
  • Provide On-the-Job training to Level I or Level II Mechanical Assembly Technicians.
  • Support process improvements by utilizing 5-S strategies, contributing to lean-line design, devising shop aides, and suggesting cost reduction strategies.
  • Set-up tooling and production processes on equipment.
  • Promote Program Participant abilities, independence, and self-esteem by providing individualized training and support.
  • Instruct Program Participants on processing work within delivery requirements.
  • Assist supervisor and Lead in evaluating potential new work by determining shop capability and capacity.
  • Help to design, specify, and create tooling and production processes.
  • Provide training to Orion staff and recommend qualification on specific processes and equipment.
  • Coordinate staff activities and make work assignments as needed.
  • Monitor production performance across manufacturing cell and take corrective action.
  • Troubleshoot problems beyond the capability of lower-level technicians.
  • Participate in safety and quality investigations and recommend corrective action.
