About The Position

The Mechanical Assembler – Chillers is responsible for assembling industrial chillers and related subassemblies in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, work instructions, and production standards. This role supports the building of standard and custom portable chiller units and requires strong mechanical assembly skills, brazing and pipefitting capability, attention to quality, and a commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical or manufacturing assembly experience required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, schematics, and written work instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to braze copper tubing and complete leak-free joints.
  • Working knowledge of pipe bending, pipefitting, and mechanical fit-up techniques.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic measuring instruments accurately and safely.
  • Ability to identify problems, troubleshoot assembly issues, and support practical solutions.
  • Good attention to detail, organization, and follow-through in a production environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead lifting equipment and other material handling equipment, or ability to become qualified.
  • Basic computer skills for reviewing work instructions, production information, or related documentation.
  • Reliable attendance and ability to meet productivity and quality expectations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial equipment, refrigeration systems, brazing, or pipefitting preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems, components, and assembly practices preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics is a plus.
  • Experience assembling industrial chillers, refrigeration equipment, or other custom-built industrial machinery.
  • Additional experience with copper brazing, pipe bending, and refrigeration circuit assembly.
  • Familiarity with reading electrical schematics and coordinating mechanical assembly around electrical layouts.
  • Experience using overhead cranes, hoists, or other material handling equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience working with quality checks, rework reduction, and standardized assembly processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble industrial chillers, portable chiller units, and related subassemblies according to engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material, shop orders, and work instructions.
  • Perform mechanical assembly, fitting, alignment, piping, and component installation using appropriate hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices.
  • Braze copper piping and perform pipefitting work required to complete chiller assemblies to quality standards.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and help resolve assembly, fit-up, and design-related issues in partnership with engineering, quality, and production support teams.
  • Inspect completed work for accuracy, workmanship, and conformance to specifications and established quality requirements.
  • Follow standard operating procedures, safety requirements, and production documentation throughout the assembly process.
  • Maintain material identification, job documentation, and work area organization to support efficient production flow and traceability.
  • Use overhead lifting equipment and other material handling methods safely when moving components, as trained and authorized.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional departments to improve assembly methods, product quality, and overall process efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment consistent with 5S and plant housekeeping expectations.
  • Meet productivity, quality, and departmental performance expectations.
