About The Position

The Mechanical Application Engineering position is responsible for external frontline technical support and resolving customer application issues onsite in Safford, Arizona. The associate will work within a large customer’s mining facilities to improve the performance of our product. This includes visiting gear drive locations at the mine sites and interfacing with mine personnel, distributors, and Regal Rexnord salespeople. This role will support Engineered Gear products in Arizona, mainly V-Class and A+ drives for two years. After that, responsibilities are planned to move to the Milwaukee area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology from an accredited university preferred
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience, preferably with application support in industrial products.
  • Knowledge of industrial gearboxes, manufacturing processes, castings, and fabrications strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial gearboxes, manufacturing processes, castings, fabrications, forgings, sheet metal parts, fittings, and fasteners
  • Understanding of Engineering BOMs and drawings
  • Proficient in MS Office tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment

  • Ability to effectively solve problems, prioritize, and execute tasks with a sense of urgency

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring company sponsorship to obtain or keep U.S. work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in SolidWorks and GD&T practices
  • Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certification
  • Spanish would be beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Travel to the mine sites to survey gear drives in the field four days per week. This includes reviewing temperatures, vibration, installed motors, installed coolers, and any other observations of issues.
  • During the mine visits, tie off with reliability personnel on their observations and concerns.
  • Assist with product selection for site improvements and expansions.
  • Visit distributor and other repair shops to review failures and advise on repairs.
  • Advise when Field Service needs to be engaged.
  • Interact with sales team and customers on applications to translate customer requirements to product designs for quotes and orders.
  • Design products to meet and exceed customer requirements with a strong understanding of basic design tools and methods for application of products.
  • Redesign products and systems to support change requests, simplification (VA/VE), and cost reductions.
  • Take responsibility for and complete key tasks on a project-by-project basis, review and approve drawings, and drive to meet deadlines ensuring project success.
  • When appropriate, create test plans to validate design concepts and material or manufacturing changes, summarizing results, and documenting conclusions
  • Resolve challenges related to the interpretation of drawings, design tolerances, quality, and material requirements
  • Execute design engineering functions including gear calculation, bearing selection, shaft and housing design, lubrication design, and accessory component design
  • Works closely with manufacturing, inspection, and assembly to problem solve issues
  • Write specifications (design specifications, product specifications, drafting instructions)
