About The Position

Smith & Loveless is seeking a Mechanical Application Engineer - Municipal to partner with their experienced application engineering team. This role is responsible for preparing timely and accurate engineering orders to specifications and to satisfy customer needs. The engineer will read and interpret engineering drawings, process and communicate needed changes with the customer, engineering consultants, and internal engineers. This position will identify potential issues and work to resolve them for both production and the customer. Excellent written/verbal communication skills, ability to read/interpret engineering drawings/specifications, and extreme attention to detail are mission critical. This is a high-visibility role that is a critical component to ensuring that when the product delivers, it is Plug and Play with no issues. The engineering work and solid communicating done in this role impacts customer, engineering, manufacturing, legal, accounting, delivery, logistics, and pricing.

Requirements

  • Possess an Engineering, Construction Management or other technical bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of technical work in relevant industry will be considered in absence of a degree.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and manage them smoothly.
  • Ability to calculate various hydraulic conditions.
  • Ability to cost up and price custom engineered equipment.
  • Possess excellent phone, communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accountability.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to take initiative and work quickly and very accurately.
  • Strong MS Office application skills.
  • Strong organizing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Technical Engineering Support in determining equipment required, specifications, and other documents to support the Sales Team, Representatives and Customers.
  • Process all aspects of a municipal engineering job, from order entry, material requirements planning (MRP) entry, Order Entry & Invoicing (OEI) and all other required paperwork to process the job.
  • Maintain a friendly attitude toward both internal and external customers.
  • Build collaborative and trusting relationships with customers, sales reps, manufacturing reps, and engineers.
  • Provide quick and timely order processing, and keep communication moving between customer and S&L.
  • Work closely with Customer, Representative, Engineering and CM&O groups on larger treatment projects as the job is processed in Engineering and Manufacturing so it meets required customer deadlines.
  • Ensure Smith & Loveless receives a maximum price for its products by reviewing contractual and technical documents with reps and internal departments on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for being well informed on the full line of Smith & Loveless products.
