The Military Aircraft Group is hiring a Mechanical Analysis Engineer with a passion for discovering how mechanical systems work, sharing learnings, and building engineering tools to accelerate work across the engineering organization. This role reports to the Chief Engineer for Mechanical Analysis and offers a 9/80 work schedule with a hybrid work option (3 days/week in the office) in Torrance, CA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, Physics, or Math
  • 2+ years of experience designing and analyzing components

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with product analysis and evaluation including finite element methods, vibration analysis, fatigue evaluation, gear analysis, and close form solutions
  • Experience writing code in Python or MATLAB
  • Experience building applications using MATLAB App Designer
  • Familiarity with ANSYS or other FEA tools

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead the development of strategically important tools that have a material benefit for the organization.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to improve the capability and productivity of the group through digital automation.
  • Work with the Chief Engineer to implement the technology roadmap and support IR&D initiatives.
  • Acquire hands on experience through work on the product lifecycle including: Conceptual design and sizing of new components and assemblies.
  • Detailed analysis in coordination with design and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for production while balancing technical requirements.
  • Lead investigations determining root cause for anomalies encountered during qualification testing.
  • Troubleshoot issues and non-conformances (both piece part and assembly level) encountered during production.
  • Create and review program deliverable documentation (i.e. stress reports), Moog internal memorandums, and production drawings.
  • Up to 25% travel
