About The Position

FSM Group has an opening for skilled and semi-skilled mechanically-minded individuals for their Morrisville, NC site. This role involves working with heavy machinery in an aviation setting, performing maintenance, repairs, and refurbishment on various ground support equipment (GSE) such as luggage tugs, catering trucks, fuel carts, diesel trucks, transport vehicles, tanker trucks, and de-icing vehicles. The daily routine includes oil changes, coolant and fluid checks, brake checks, tire changes, troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and refurbishments. No two days are the same as GSE Mechanics provide ongoing preventive, routine, repair, and refurbishment services for a variety of equipment found on the airport ramp.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid state driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and federal fingerprint background check.
  • 1-2 years of mechanical experience (preferably auto mechanic, box truck, HVAC, refrigeration systems, etc.).
  • Mechanical aptitude and enjoyment of problem-solving.
  • General knowledge of carburetors, alternators, starter motors, batteries, hydraulics, small engines, radiators, and diesel engines.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Demonstrated regular, predictable attendance at the airport location.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Basic understanding of computer applications and data entries.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on Ground Support Equipment is preferred.
  • Electrical and diesel skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform oil changes, coolant and fluid checks.
  • Conduct brake checks and tire changes.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues.
  • Perform repairs and refurbishments on ground support equipment.
  • Provide ongoing preventive, routine, repair, and refurbishment services for a variety of equipment.
  • Work on fuel carts, hydrant trucks, luggage tugs, deicing trucks, catering trucks, and other airport ramp equipment.
