About The Position

FSM Group has an opening for skilled and semi-skilled mechanically-minded individuals for their Morrisville, NC site. This role involves working with heavy machinery in an aviation setting, focusing on the maintenance, repairs, and refurbishment of Ground Support Equipment (GSE). The GSE Shop handles a variety of vehicles and equipment that support airport operations, including luggage tugs, catering trucks, fuel carts, diesel trucks, transport vehicles, tanker trucks, and de-icing vehicles. Daily tasks may include oil changes, coolant and fluid checks, brake checks, tire changes, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs. The GSE Mechanic provides ongoing preventive, routine, repair, and refurbishment services for equipment such as fuel carts, hydrant trucks, luggage tugs, deicing trucks, and catering trucks.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age or older.
Reliable transportation.
Eligible to work in the United States.
Valid state driver’s license with clean motor vehicle record.
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and federal fingerprint background check.
1-2 years of mechanical experience of any kind (preferably auto mechanic, box truck, HVAC, refrigeration systems, etc.).
Mechanical minds who enjoy problem-solving.
General knowledge of carburetors, alternators, starter motors, batteries, hydraulics, small engines, radiators, and diesel engines.
Ability to problem solve.
Basic mathematical skills.
Demonstrated regular, predictable attendance at the airport location.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to communicate in English while on the job with customers, coworkers, or supervisors who only speak English, in emergencies or other situations in which employees must speak a common language to promote safety.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Basic understanding of computer applications and data entries.
Must be able to climb up and down stairs and ladders with 50+ steps and work at heights of 50 feet or more, including high, precarious places.
Must be able to get in and out of vehicles of varying sizes and heights.
Must be able to drive and operate vehicles and equipment of various sizes, including automated lifts up to 26 feet.
Frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds overhead.
Occasionally lift up to 70 pounds to waist level.
Must be able to shovel materials such as snow, sand, dirt, gravel, or rocks as needed.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, twist, climb, and balance for extended periods of time.
Perform repetitive physical movements, including bending at the waist and knees, and sustaining awkward or physically demanding positions.
Capable of climbing and standing on step ladders while performing overhead work, such as connecting fueling hoses.
Use hands and fingers to handle, feel, grip, and operate tools, equipment, and controls.
Hear and respond to verbal instructions, environmental sounds, and audible alarms.
Maintain close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
Maintain distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more).
Maintain color vision (identify and distinguish between colors).
Maintain peripheral vision (see up/down and side-to-side while focused on a central point).
Maintain depth perception (assess distance and spatial relationships).
Maintain ability to adjust focus (sharpen vision at various distances).
Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
Tolerate frequent exposure to moderate to high noise levels (with use of appropriate hearing protection).
Tolerate frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous substances, materials, or waste.
Work near or around moving mechanical parts.
Work near or around high-voltage equipment.
Work near or around hydraulic and pneumatic systems operating under high pressure.
Work in elevated or precarious positions, such as on lifts, ladders, or elevated platforms.

Nice To Haves

Experience working on Ground Support Equipment is preferred, but not required.
Electrical and diesel skills are preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities
