About The Position

Challenger, part of the Fastfrate Group, is a leading North American transportation and logistics provider. This role is within the Maintenance Department, where the Experienced Apprentice Mechanic or Licensed Truck Mechanic (310T) is responsible for daily and preventative maintenance and completing required repairs on company-owned trucks and trailers. The chosen candidate will provide quality customer service to drivers, be safety-focused, and is a Licensed Truck Mechanic (310T) or Experienced Apprentice Mechanic looking to work in a fleet maintenance environment.

Requirements

  • Provincial Ontario 310T Certification of Qualification (Truck), interprovincial designation from another province OR Level 2 - 4 Apprentice (Apprentices must have proof of in class theory completion to be qualified).
  • Registered 310T with Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).
  • Possess a valid G-class driver’s license.
  • Must have suitable tools or willingness to purchase prior to hire.
  • Knowledgeable with air brakes, electrical diagnostics and 5th wheel rebuilding.
  • Understand emission controls, including DPFs, DEF, EGR systems and Detroit one-box systems.
  • Experience with Bendix and Meritor systems.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-5 years of prior work experience as a technician.
  • OEM Freightliner, Volvo and/or Paccar experience.
  • Experience replacing clutches and engine diagnostics with integrated powertrain experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and scheduled repairs on trucks and trailers.
  • Review and follow work order instructions from start to finish.
  • Outline all parts used and input comments into the work order regarding the repair.
  • Inspect entire vehicle and road test to ensure repairs are complete.
  • Test systems and components using computerized diagnostic and other testing devices to isolate faults.
  • Notify shift Team Leader of any other needed repairs.
  • Identify any warranty repairs and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Perform Ministry of Transportation vehicle inspections as per Ministry guidelines.
  • Shunt and move equipment in and out of the maintenance facility and other destinations for repairs.
  • Put away any equipment used, including personal tools.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness, empty garbage cans at end of shift, wash floors and sweep.
  • Attend shift meetings as required.
  • Participate in formal and informal training sessions.
  • Perform other maintenance duties as required.
