About The Position

New Flyer is seeking a skilled Mechanic, specifically a 310T Certified Technician, for a Field Service Technician role. This position involves traveling within the larger GTA to provide support to customers. The role is crucial in maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet, ensuring that buses, from diesel engines to electric drivetrains, operate at their peak performance. In addition to mechanical expertise, the Field Service Technician will provide essential on-site support across various locations in Canada and the US. This dynamic, customer-facing position involves troubleshooting, repairing equipment, completing retrofits, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through professional service. The technician will work closely with teams from both MCI and New Flyer, enhancing operational efficiency and fostering strong customer relations.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years' work experience working in a similar position preferably with heavy duty transit buses or heavy-duty trucks.
  • Experience with diesel engines, driveline components, electrical systems, and electric vehicle maintenance.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic devices such as DDEC, ATEC readers, and equipment diagnostics (e.g., Cummins Insite, DDDL, Allison DOC, Wabco Toolbox, Bendix ACOM).
  • Proficiency with shop tools, diagnostic devices, and equipment for assembly and repairs.
  • Certified Truck & Coach Technician (310T), or currently pursuing certification.
  • High level of professionalism with strong customer service skills, capable of interacting positively with clients.
  • High problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed reports and logs.
  • Willingness to travel 50% of the time, with a valid passport required.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and effective use of personal protective equipment.

  • Red Seal Preferred.
  • Additional certifications related to electric vehicles or advanced diagnostics are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair advanced systems, including diesel, electric, and hydrogen fuel cell engines.
  • Handle intricate repairs across HVAC systems, driveline components, and electrical systems.
  • Service and repair complex HVAC systems, ensuring optimal passenger comfort and system efficiency.
  • Conduct in-depth troubleshooting and repairs of high-voltage electrical systems and drivetrains for electric buses.
  • Employ advanced diagnostic tools to resolve complex issues.
  • Oversee the final inspection process for fleet vehicles, ensuring all repairs and maintenance meet rigorous safety and performance standards before vehicles are certified for service.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior mechanics, including Mechanic III and Mechanic II team members.
  • Mentor and help develop the skills of junior mechanics to uphold high standards of workmanship.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements and integrate new technologies into work.
  • Contribute to setting the standard for maintenance practices, including those related to electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
