Requirements

  • Must have own tools
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License
  • Minimum of Two (2) years as an Automotive Technician
  • Technical skills to diagnosis, electrical and mechanical repairs
  • Effective and professional communications skills
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Basic computer skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school; and three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Certified Technician (A1-A8)
  • NYS Inspectors License

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains company and customer vehicles and mechanical equipment (engines, hydraulic systems, etc.) within the regulations and standards set by DOT, NYS DOH, and DMV.
  • Observes mechanical devices in operation to watch and listen for causes of failure.
  • Completes thorough documentation of all work performed, condition of the vehicles, parts to be ordered, and work to be scheduled.
  • Diagnoses electrical and computer control devices using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make, repair, and rebuild parts.
  • Repairs electrical equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on a scheduled basis for all fleet vehicles.
  • Completes fabrication work as assigned, to include; body work, painting, etc.
  • Performs road service calls as necessary to evaluate and repair failed vehicles and equipment, including vehicles in Franklin County (Malone NY) once every other month on a rotating schedule (travel and hotel are paid by company).
  • Communicates timely to Supervisors and Dispatchers of vehicles off road for service and repair, including target time for returning to road service.
  • Road tests equipment and vehicles.
  • Diagnoses chronic repair problems and devises permanent repair resolution plan.
  • Operates snow removal equipment.
  • Performs minor building maintenance and equipment repair as needed.
