About The Position

Performs semi-skilled, skilled and administrative work in the maintaining the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the City. Also performs the essential duties and responsibilities of the General Maintenance, Grade 4 classification as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics
  • Considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generators
  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities
  • Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment maintenance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective preventive maintenance programs, policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain effective cost containment and purchasing procedures
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion
  • Ability to work safely
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments and the public
  • Valid State's Driver's license
  • CDL certification
  • State of Michigan certification as master mechanic or other combination of State of Michigan mechanic certifications
