About The Position

This position is located within the Office of Management & Finance - Fleet/Facility operations in Rapides Parish. Incumbent serves as mechanic for the Department of Agriculture & Forestry’s Automotive Shop, Office of Management & Finance. Duties entail the independent performance of advanced, highly skilled automotive mechanic work relative to the repair and maintenance of light and heavy-duty diesel and gasoline-powered automotive equipment, as well as all passenger vehicles. Requirements

One year of experience or training as a mechanic.

Responsibilities

Repair and overhaul of heavy-duty diesel tractor/trailer rigs, as well as heavy-duty diesel and gasoline trucks (light and heavy) and passenger cars.
Diagnosis of operational and malfunctions of both diesel and internal combustion engines and subsequent repair or replacement of parts as necessary.
Incumbent uses a laptop to diagnose heavy equipment (Mack, freight liner) and diagnostic equipment to diagnose vehicles.
Overhaul, repair, and replace components such as transmissions, all running gear, electrical cooling systems, and related work as required.
Maintains appropriate records in the FASTER fleet program relative to equipment, including breakdown of parts, labor, downtime, and related information.
Other duties as assigned.
