About The Position

The Mechanic performs mechanical work on vehicles and equipment at the highest skill level. This role involves analyzing test results, machine error messages, and information from operators to diagnose equipment problems. The Mechanic will also assist with documenting downtime, repair costs, and other data. Responsibilities include observing and testing machinery operations to diagnose malfunctions using diagnostic tools, performing routine maintenance such as inspecting drives, motors, and belts, checking fluid levels, and replacing filters according to checklists. Additionally, the role requires assembling, installing, and repairing wiring, electrical components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, and equipment, as well as disassembling machinery for repairs. Key attributes for success include safety awareness, quality orientation, adaptability, and teamwork/collaboration.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED; VOTECH Certificate of completion of Maintenance Mechanic program.
  • 1-3 years of production maintenance mechanic experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
  • Ability to lead others in troubleshooting and emergency repairs.
  • Ability to develop and implement planned preventive maintenance programs for equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety procedures.
  • Must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have acceptable driving history as determined by Oaklawn Jockey Club.
  • Must complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical work on vehicles and equipment.
  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, and operator information to diagnose equipment problems.
  • Assist with documentation of downtime, costs to repair, and other data.
  • Observe and test the operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions using diagnostic devices.
  • Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions following checklists.
  • Assemble, install, and/or repair wiring, electrical components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
  • Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
  • Demonstrate safety awareness and potentially take additional safety courses.
  • Exhibit quality orientation by considering all aspects of the job and accurately checking processes.
  • Show adaptability by maintaining effectiveness during major changes in work tasks or environment.
  • Engage in teamwork and collaboration to achieve organizational goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
