About The Position

This position reports to a Maintenance Supervisor. Responsible for fabricating, installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, operating and maintaining all types of machines, equipment, structures and facilities in a safe and orderly manner as directed by a Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

Five (5) years industrial mechanical maintenance experience.
Vocational or high school graduate or equivalent.
Standing: Worker stands on concrete (constant basis).
Walking: Worker is walking on concrete floors during the shift (constant basis).
Strength: Lifting: Worker is required to lift equipment, tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs., setting up of scaffolding.
Strength: Carrying: Carrying various parts and tools weighing up to 50 lbs.
Strength: Pushing/Pulling: Utilizes hand tools such as cheater bars to change out parts, pulling ropes, utilizing pulleys or block & tackle.
Strength: Some torque involving applying up to 250 ft. lb. of pressure.
Climbing: Of steps and of ladders on top of crane (occasional basis).
Balancing: Good balance skills required in being on top or sides of high equipment, having to tie off to prevent falls.
Bending: Occasional during the changing out of parts.
Kneeling: Frequent
Crawling: Frequent
Reaching: Full ROM of UE required to change out parts, works overhead with tools.
Handling: Good manual dexterity required, works with hand tools, pneumatic tools, jackhammers, changes out hoses, couplers and motors. Worker also is required to perform welding activities. Tools and equipment also include machine parts, metal stock, pipe, tubing, fittings, bolts, nuts, washers, compressed gases, oil grease, paint, insulating materials. Maintenance Mechanic may be required to use tools such as drill presses, saws, grinders, breaks, benders, shears, iron workers, pipe cutting and threading equipment, welding, burning and metal joining equipment, hoists, cranes, testing equipment, joiners, planers, mortar and concrete mixers, brooms, shovels and trowels.

Sitting: Occasional (estimated 1 hour per shift)
Positions: Maintenance Mechanic is often working in tight, awkward positions to repair or PM equipment. Difficult to utilize proper body mechanics.

Formal Apprenticeship or equivalent trades training is desirable.

Responsibilities

Must demonstrate the ability to comply with all Alcoa and plant PPE requirements and safety protocols.
Must possess the skills and abilities to work autonomously while conducting routine mechanical tasks.
Familiar with the handling, operation and safe use of all types of Mechanical Equipment including hydraulic systems, gearboxes, conveyor equipment, vibrating feeders, hammer mills, cranes, mechanical drives and assorted industrial equipment.
Read and work from blueprints, sketches, charts, manuals, instruction books, diagrams and other information and instructions. Fill out reports and other necessary paperwork.
Troubleshoot, dismantle, repair, assemble, inspect, test industrial equipment, machinery, structures and facilities. Install, inspect, maintain and repair piping systems, associated fixtures and equipment.
Perform cutting, welding, brazing and soldering work with metal sheet and plate, including the necessary layout work.
Operate cranes, mobile equipment, and erects and disassembles scaffolding in conjunction with repair work.
Perform necessary painting and related cleaning and surface preparation.
Actively participate in crew and plant safety programs.
Assist in warehouse parts and inventory control.
Assist in the upgrade of PM's and lubes through planning.
Actively participate in problem solving.
Participate in out-of-schedule working hours, i.e.; fill-ins, breakdowns and overhauls.
Work rotating shift.
Maintain job continuity.
Communicate freely with the technician/supervisor.
Utilize computer systems, i.e.; daily time entries, functions for the CMMS system.
Continue to upgrade oneself through education/skills associated with their trade.
Maintain personal and company tools in a safe and usable condition at all times.
Exercise extreme caution while working alone on many tasks.
Assist other maintenance shift workers throughout the plant in repair efforts to minimize call-ins of day shift personnel.
Assist assigned crew with execution of planned activities such as PM's, lubes, or standing work orders as assigned by the maintenance supervisor.
Understand and activate the "Maintenance Help Chain" as necessary to prevent excessive production interruptions.
Prioritize work requests or have the Potline supervisor prioritize requests in the event of multiple requests simultaneously.
Assess non-routine breakdown situations and recommend necessary resources when help is required.
Provide accurate feedback to the appropriate maintenance personnel regarding turnover information on breakdowns and trouble calls.
Practice established maintenance process techniques at all times, some examples include: accurate and detailed information on work orders, applying parts removal tags on rebuild items, immediately return to stock warehouse issues that were not needed, proper coding of emergency work orders and ensure all stock issues are charged to work orders.
