About The Position

We are currently seeking a Night Shift Mechanic to join our Maintenance team at our Bear Run Mine. Bear Run Mine is the largest surface coal mine in the Eastern United States and produces high quality thermal coal that is loaded onto haul trucks and then shipped by rail. It uses draglines, dozers and shovels to extract and load the coal. Bear Run has approximately 240 million tons of provable and probable reserves and serves industrial facilities and customers that provide power for millions of residents in Indiana, and customers of electric co-ops and utilities beyond the region. This job is to carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance to fixed and mobile mine equipment in open cut environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience repairing and troubleshooting large surface mining equipment.
  • High School diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System
  • Inspect work area and plant for hazards, damage and defects.
  • Examine drawings or specifications to determine work methods, sequence of activities or manufacture of components.
  • Diagnose faults or breakdowns.
  • Estimate time and materials required to complete jobs.
  • Raise orders for materials.
  • Undertake repairs or component changeouts as required.
  • Clean and maintain tools and work area.
  • Train other personnel or apprentices (if required)
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the company.
