About The Position

As a valued member of our team, the Plant Tech Mechanic is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of ready-mix concrete production equipment and fleet assets. This position inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment, including batching systems, conveyors, mixers, electrical components, and hydraulic systems. The Plant Tech Mechanic also assists with preventative maintenance services on heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and diesel-powered machinery, helping to minimize downtime, maintain equipment reliability, and support overall production and operational goals.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in diagnosing and fixing mechanical issues in heavy machinery.
  • Understanding of the operational principles of construction and quarrying equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in the industry.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and find effective solutions.
  • Capability of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and management.
  • Precision in performing maintenance tasks and keeping accurate records.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Experience with hand tools and power tools used in mechanical work.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical manuals.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience as a mechanic, especially working with heavy diesel equipment.
  • 3+ years of experience with yellow iron equipment, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, etc.
  • Working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic tire service and repair techniques.
  • Experience with hydraulics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on ready-mix concrete plant equipment and machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues.
  • Maintain and repair batch plants, conveyors, aggregate systems, cement silos, mixers, and related equipment.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to identify wear, damage, or potential failures.
  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and perform emergency repairs to minimize production interruptions.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts, including bearings, belts, motors, gearboxes, chains, and pumps.
  • Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and metal repairs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and inspection reports.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Coordinate with plant operators and management to schedule maintenance activities.
  • Assist with plant upgrades, equipment installations, and equipment modifications.
  • Safely operate maintenance tools, shop equipment, and machinery.
  • Report equipment defects, safety concerns, and repair needs to supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Assist diesel mechanics with equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and other maintenance-related tasks as needed.
  • Perform concrete air content and slump testing as needed and document test results in accordance with company procedures.
  • Attend all Safety meetings.
  • Washes vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
