About The Position

Harris County Precinct 4 (HCP4) is seeking a motivated and highly driven Mechanic to join our Road & Bridge (R&B) team. As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing all machinery and vehicles. You must have the ability to work diligently in a fast-paced environment and have a strong commitment to safety. A strong work ethic, initiative, a willingness to learn, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role. The candidate must have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic’s tools, service, and diagnostic equipment. Requirements

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school OR Minimum of three (3) months related experience and/or training as a mechanic
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for one another.
  • Solid knowledge of basic mechanic’s tools, service, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to work diligently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, a willingness to learn, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of related experience or training
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Candidates are required to obtain a CDL within three (3) months of employment

Responsibilities

  • Work diligently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
  • Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
  • Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade.
  • Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.).
  • Design a plan of action for all maintenance tasks and upgrades.
  • Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks).
  • Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
  • Examine machines and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
  • Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
  • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
  • Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.
  • Offer consultation on maintenance and preventative procedures to machine and vehicle end users.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned.
