About The Position

This position requires a thorough knowledge of auto repair. The Mechanic/Utility diagnoses all mechanical and operating difficulties of vehicles, repairs defects, and replaces worn or broken parts. The role also performs minor repairs for plumbing and electrical work. The job involves maintaining and repairing small equipment such as small engines, weedwackers, chainsaws, and gang mowers, as well as heavy and light vehicles like automobiles, trucks, and tractors. Automotive repair work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with road calls to various City locations. The position also includes performing welding work on necessary structures and equipment, sharpening and repairing mowing equipment, and diagnosing and repairing defects in electrical and mechanical systems. Additionally, the role involves turning water on and off for park facilities and maintaining an inventory of parts and supplies. A clean and organized work area must be maintained, along with necessary inspections. Other related duties may also be required.

Requirements

  • Ability to repair all types of vehicles and equipment owned and operated by the park system.
  • Thorough knowledge of trucks, engines, transmissions, and all other component parts.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs for plumbing and electrical work.
  • Skills in preventative maintenance.
  • Skill in the use of all mechanical tools.
  • Ability to handle and use various tools, equipment, and parts of an automotive nature.
  • Ability to read instructions, diagrams, manuals, and other documents.
  • Skills in organization and accuracy in keeping records of work done and procedures performed.
  • Ability to lift and handle tools, equipment, and materials up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to move and lift various tools and equipment.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to perform welding and grinding activities.
  • Ability to work underneath vehicles.
  • Ability to remain current with new developments in the automotive repair field.
  • Ability and willingness to attend training schools when requested.
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in the repair in operations of all types of motor vehicles.
  • Possession of the appropriate ASE certifications for light automobiles and trucks.
  • Possession of own tools of the trade.
  • Must possess a valid Class A commercial drivers license with the tank endorsement at all times.
  • Applicants MUST submit a copy of a valid driver's license or other photo ID along with their application and any other pertinent documentation.
  • Applicants must be a U. S. Citizen or have a permanent resident card.
  • Applicants must be a High School graduate or possess a G.E.D. and be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by 2-cycle and 4-cycle small engine manufacturer is preferred.
  • Outdoor Power Equipment (OPE) certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs small equipment such as small engines, weedwackers, chainsaws, and gang mowers.
  • Maintains and repairs heavy and light vehicles such as automobiles, trucks, and tractors.
  • Performs automotive repair work both indoors and outdoors, making road calls to various City locations.
  • Performs welding work on necessary structures and equipment.

  • Performs minor plumbing and electrical work.
  • Diagnoses and repairs defects in electrical and mechanical systems to keep all equipment in proper operating operation.
  • Turns the water on and or in the picnic shelters, toilet facilities, and various drinking fountains throughout the park system.
  • May order and obtain necessary parts as needed.
  • Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Makes necessary and required inspections.
