About The Position

Boston Ship Repair is seeking a skilled Mechanic/Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on various equipment, ensuring safety, efficiency, and minimal downtime. Our fleet primarily includes Aerial Work Platforms, compressors, forklifts, Lull’s, diesel cranes, and other rolling stock and general shipyard-related equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a mechanic working with diesel equipment, heavy machinery, or specialty lines equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems, including troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding, hands-on environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand (minimum of two hours while conducting regular work duties), walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl on board ships.
  • Must be able to crawl into tanks and/or small spaces.
  • The employee will frequently use both hands to grasp rails while climbing, to hold and carry tools and equipment, and to operate tools and machinery.
  • Must be able to respond to voice or visual commands.
  • The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds on a consistent (daily) basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school or equivalent training is preferred.
  • Certifications in mechanics, hydraulics, or electrical systems are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs on heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain accurate service records and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Prepare job site for work.
  • Use, understand, and be able to explain lock-out and tag-out procedures to ensure workplace safety.
  • Drive and operate fuel trucks, forklifts, and service vehicles as needed.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Provide tools of the trade as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
