About The Position

This position is for an Apprentice Mechanic Tech D, designed for individuals 18 years or older who are enrolled in a Vehicle Maintenance/Diesel Technician program. The program requires a minimum commitment of two years (4 Semesters) and maintaining a 3.0 GPA. The role involves developing an entry-level understanding of fleet transportation vehicle systems, performing oil and lube services, assisting with preventative maintenance inspections and documentation, and supporting mentors with routine repairs and maintenance. The apprentice will also be responsible for continuously learning new technical information, maintaining an organized workspace, and contributing to a positive work environment. This is a part-time position, not exceeding twenty-five (25) hours per week, but it maintains full-time status for program purposes.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must be enrolled in a Vehicle Maintenance/Diesel Technician program and be able to dedicate at minimum 2 years (4 Semesters.) to the Apprentice program.
  • Must be able to maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Must have basic comprehension and math skills, intermediate computer experience.
  • Capable of understanding and following oral and written instructions
  • Must be able to maintain a valid VA driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Willingness to work Flexible Schedule in a 24/7 work environment
  • May walk and/or stand for over four (4) hours per day
  • works with personal computer (pc), laptop
  • May use electronic hand-held device (cell phone, two way-radio)
  • works around heavy machinery

Responsibilities

  • Develop entry level understanding of all systems onboard the fleet transportation vehicles
  • Perform Oil and Lube Services
  • Assist in performing Preventative Maintenance inspection and proper documentation

  • Ability to continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal and informal training sessions in order to stay updated with rapidly changing transit technology
