About The Position

The Diesel Shop Helper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the facility, assisting mechanics with minor repairs and cleaning of equipment, and managing parts room inventory. This role involves working alongside various team members, maintaining good attendance, and potentially participating in the Safety Specialist program. The position requires flexibility and a strong commitment to safety, with the opportunity for diesel shop training.

Requirements

• Able to work safely in adverse conditions: summer heat, freezing conditions, snow, wet
• Comply with all safety standards
• Complete duties in a timely manner as assigned
• Attend communication meetings and safety training as scheduled
• Be able to read, write, speak and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions
• Operate or move equipment around the yard and shop
• Flexibility and ability to work on various shop, maintenance and yard tasks
• Strong commitment to safety
• Reliable

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a maintenance shop or industrial environment preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

• Responsible for overall facility cleanliness
• Work alongside mechanics, managers, drivers and other office personnel to perform minor repairs and cleaning of the equipment and facilities, keeping them in a safe condition
• Maintain parts room inventory, stocking and cleaning
• Maintain a good attendance record
• Work weekends as needed
• Respond to requests that will assist the location's team members in carrying out their job more efficiently by running errands and moving items to, from, and around the operation
